Losing a child is every parent’s worst nightmare.
The Pankey family recently suffered the loss of their 10-year-old son Aiden, but the circumstances of his death have caused the Pankeys and others to question the practices of a popular pet store. Aiden had recently received a new domestic rat from his grandmother, who had purchased the animal from Petco. Unbeknownst to the family, the rodent had a rat bite fever, which he then passed on to Aiden.
Aiden loved to play and cuddle with the creature, but two weeks after contracting the disease he died. Now her family is suing Petco, claiming they were negligent and knew their customers could be harmed.
